SUMMER BASEBALL PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Ages 8 – 15 Travel Summer Baseball:
Needham Baseball provides a highly competitive summer travel baseball program for players in the U8 – U15 age groups. These teams are for committed baseball players. The program stresses skill development and competition. The coaches will be carefully selected with the goal of improving player’s skills.
Winter workouts will be on March 11, 18, and 25 at TJO Sports in Canton. Players who are U8 through U10 are scheduled from 4:00 PM through 5:30 PM; U11 and U2 players are scheduled from 5:30 PM through 7:00 PM. The winter workouts will be run by professional instructors from TJO Sports and the players will be evaluated by TJO Sports for use in team placement.
From late June through late July/early August, teams will play games as part of competitive local leagues.
Players will be expected to participate in the regular season schedule, playoffs, and possible tournaments. A week of vacation is acceptable in the summer, but it is recommended to wait until August. Parents should not consider this program if their player goes to overnight camp, or if they plan on taking more than one week’s vacation between the end of June and early August. With the exception of tournaments, the teams typically do not play on Saturdays during the summer. The high level of commitment is necessary to be able to field teams and make our program successful.
Teams at age U8 will be in the Friendship League. The Friendship League does not have tiers and our teams will be balanced as best as possible. Teams from U9 through U11 will play in the Suburban Youth Baseball League. There will be an "A" team and a "B" team in the U9 and U10 leagues. There will be "A", "B", and "C" teams at U11. The TJO Sports evaluations and Spring manager evaluations will contribute to the selection of players for these teams. There will be a maximum of 12 players on an “A” team and 13 players on a “B” or "C" team. Players may be cut if registration numbers at a particular age group are such that it is not possible to field a team of 12 or 13 players. If a player is cut or asked to be an alternate after tryouts, refunds for the registration fee will be provided. Teams at U12 will play in the Bay State Baseball League. As of this writing, league placements for U13 through U15 have not been made.
