SUMMER BASEBALL PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Ages 8-14 Travel Summer Baseball
Needham Baseball provides a highly competitive summer travel baseball program for players in the U8 - U14 age groups. These teams are for dedicated baseball players. The program stresses skill development and competition. The coaches are carefully selected and receive additional training through the Positive Coaching Alliance.
Winter workouts will be on March 17, 24, and 31 for our Little League players ages U8 through U12. Players who are U8 through U10 are scheduled from 4:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.; U11 and U12 players are scheduled from 5:30 p.m. through 7:00 p.m. The winter workouts will be run by professional instructors from TJO Sports who will also evaluate the players for use in team placement.
From late June through late July/early August, teams will play games as part of competitive local leagues.
Players will be expected to participate in the regular season schedule, playoffs and possible tournaments. A week of vacation is acceptable during the season. Parents should not consider this program if their player goes to overnight camp in July. Except for tournaments and playoffs, the teams typically do not play on weekends during the summer. The high level of commitment is necessary to be able to field teams and make our program successful.
Teams at U8 will be in the Friendship League. The Friendship League does not have tiers and our teams will be as balanced as possible. Teams from U9 through U12 will play in the Suburban Youth Baseball League. There will be an “A” team and a “B” team in the U9, U10 and U11 leagues. We hope to field two “B” teams at U12. We will also field an “A” team in the Bay State Baseball League. The Bay State Baseball League team will play on a 50’/70’ diamond and be similar to club baseball.
Team Size and Selection
There will be a maximum of 12 players on an A team and 13 on a B team unless an A team manager elects to carry 13 players. Players may be cut if registration numbers at a particular age group are such that it is not possible to field a team of 12 or 13 players. If a player is cut or asked to be an alternate, refunds for the registration fee will be provided. Fortunately, we have been able to accommodate all players who registered on time the last few years.
